SAT TAL

Sat Tal is a cluster of mysteriously interconnected seven freshwater lakes located in the Nainital districtof Kumaon region. Sat Tal is perched at an altitude of 1,370mts abovesea level offering splendors of nature. The group of lakes is set amidstdense forests of oak and pine trees. Sattal is one of the few unspoiledand unpolluted fresh water biomes in India. The names of the seven lakesof Sattal are Purna Tal, Ram Tal, Sita tal, Laxman Tal, Nal DamyantiTal, Sukh Tal and Garud Tal. Sattal is often compared with Westmorelandof England by Britishers. These lakes are paradise for migratory birdsas they stay for some time here during their migration. These birdstry to escape the harsh cold of the great Himalayan region by migratingto lower areas of the Himalayas. If you are an avid birder and photographyfantasize you then this is an ideal place for your holiday.




Location : It is situated atan elevation of 1,370mts above sea level on the road to Bhim Tal inthe Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. It is located 22kms fromNainital with Kathgodam as its nearest Railway station. Sattal can beeasily reached within 6-7hrs of time.

Best time to Visit

Sattal is a universal destination whichcan be visited anytime of the year. The weather during summer is salubriousand pleasant. You can see the diversified greenery during monsoon monthsat Sattal. Sattal is at its picturesque best during monsoon months.Carry heavy woolens with you if planning a visit to Sattal during wintersas the temperature can fall as low as freezing point.

Places to see in Sat Tal

Bhim Tal : It is situated ata distance of 3kms from Sattal at an altitude of 1,375mts above sea level.The main attraction in Bhimtal is the Bhimtal Lake which has a smallisland at its centre. Bhimtal is an ancient place named after the legendaryBhima of Mahabharata when Bhima visited the place during the exile periodof pandavas. Bhim tal is older than the town of Nainital and is consideredas one of the best excursions of Nainital. Bhim Tal is well connectedwith Kathgodam and all Kumaon regions and Nepal. It is an unsolved mysterybut this place might have been the part of the ancient silk route ofChina.

Butterfly Museum : It is a richin butterfly museum at Jones Estate. Butterfly Museum is a main touristattraction of Sattal, with over 2,500 species of butterflies and 1100species of insects. The museum was established by Federic Smetacek,also known as ‘the butterfly man’.

Methodist Ashram: It was established in 1930 by Stanley Jones,a great missionary and a friend of Mahatma Gandhi. It is situated atthe entry point of majestic banks of the scenic Sattal. The historicalimportance and fine colonial architecture of this place makes it a populardestination. The famous St. John’s Church is also situated in thepremises of the Methodist Ashram. The serene and tranquil ambiance ofthe ashram provides relaxation and peace of mind.



SubhashDhara: It is a striking freshwater spring that comes from the dense forest of Sattal. This is a natural spring that captivates visitorswith its crystal clear water and intriguing location.
